The Pomodoro technique doesn’t work!

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Have you ever felt like the pomodoro technique just doesn’t work for you? That your five-minute break turned into a two-hour scroll on tiktok? If you can relate with me, this blog post is for you;)

Using the pomodoro technique helps maximise your concentration. However, for people like me, who have a concentration level as small as a grain of rice, I could not focus on my work, instead my mind would always wander to my five-minute break. Once the break started, I noticed that a five-minute break didn’t satisfy me enough, so I turned it into a ten-minute break, a thirty-minute break and then eventually a two-hour break.

Due to me being in the IB program, I am required to study a lot more than other programs. I realised that I could not continue with the pomodoro technique and keep on procrastinating my studies. Here’s my study secret that got me past my pre IB year and a month or so of the actual IBDP… I study without a single break in between. Yes, you heard it right! I continue studying for hours and hours until I’m done with all of my studies. But of course, I go to the bathroom and take a glass of water, but I don’t go on my phone. My method of studying is giving myself the exact same amount of break time as my study time. For example, if I studied for three hours, that means that I’ll give myself three hours of break. Doing this makes me more productive and I would want to study more because I’ll get a longer break.

I hope that my study method can help you in your studies and help you become more productive.
